6 Healthy Foods in Season this Fall that are Delicious!

Updated: Oct 26, 2020

In every season, it’s best to eat the foods that are in season. Fall is no exception,

and while plenty of people go pumpkin-crazy (especially in the form of lattes),

there’s so much more to the Autumn harvest.

Choosing the right seasonal Fall foods helps you get nutrients your body needs,

plus you’ll stay on track with healthy options that taste great and make you feel

great. So, what should you stock up on this Fall to enjoy your meals?

1. Winter Squash

Perhaps the best treat of fall is the Spaghetti Squash. The texture is so much like

pasta you won’t believe it. Making it is simple, too. You slice it in half lengthwise,

scoop out the seeds, drizzle with olive oil, and bake it until it’s just tender. It comes

right out with a fork and serves as a healthier base for those soothing saucy

creations of Italian origin. It’s also prime for roasting or making into soups.

2. Apples and Pears

Both Apples and Pears have fiber and loads of vitamins. They taste sweet and juicy

and have low calories. For snacks or even for baking in the oven, they create a

healthy dessert alternative that creates all the cozy flavors you love about this

season.

3. Cauliflower

Is there anything Cauliflower can’t do? You can mash it like potatoes, turn it into

pizza crust or breadsticks, make it into rice, and so much more. You won’t miss

your high-carb foods when you replace them with nourishing and cruciferous

Cauliflower this Fall!

4. Figs

With plenty of fiber, Figs deserve a spot on your table. You can get them any time

of year, but they are at their best in the Fall. They go beautifully with high-quality

cheese (or vegan cheese, if you wish), in salads, or even in your own

homemade trail mix for the perfect snack.

5. Sweet Potatoes

Yes, Sweet Potatoes are always around, but they are considered a Fall seasonal

vegetable. With good carbs your body needs, they are a great side or even perfect

for a light main meal with the right toppings. Make them into soup, roast them up,

or mash them.

6. Cinnamon

Technically it’s a spice, but hey, what would seasonal Fall foods be without any

flavor? Cinnamon is terrific on roasted veggies, especially those sweet potatoes.

Even better, it’s useful for keeping blood sugar regulated. Because of its naturally

sweet taste, you won’t need to add any sugar. Create a sweet-tasting smoothie with

a sprinkle of cinnamon on top, or add it to your coffee for a warm, soothing, and

healthy flavor sensation.

When you make healthy seasonal choices this Fall, you’ll sustain your health and

immunity into the Winter months when your body needs it most!
